One Dollar Fuels Big Change

One Dollar Fuels Big Change

From a free medical clinic and thriving community center to a state-wide prison ministry and more, it’s hard to think of an organization more dedicated to making positive change in their community than Crossings Community Church. That’s why Heroes In Waiting is so grateful to be the most recent recipient of their spring Dollar Club donation.

Through the Dollar Club initiative, Crossings collects one-dollar bills from their weekly offerings, and several times each year they donate the proceeds to a worthy local cause. According to Crossings, “The Dollar Club exists to demonstrate God’s love to our community and beyond.”

“I was so excited to work with the Heroes In Waiting team to help bring their programming to John Marshall Enterprise Middle School and to advocate for bringing it to our other partner schools, that it was easy to nominate them to be a Crossings’ Dollar Club recipient,” says Crossings Community Center director Demetrius Bell. “The anti-bullying work that Heroes In Waiting is doing is inspired and is helping to change lives.”

“Crossings and Heroes In Waiting share a heart and a vision to meet the needs of kids around the Oklahoma City metro and beyond,” says Heroes In Waiting executive director Jim Stewart. “We are so, so grateful for their partnership and support.”

Jim explains that in a state where, according to the Oklahoma Department of Health’s most recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 43% of high school students report feeling sad or hopeless, 23% say they have seriously considered suicide, and 10% report having attempted suicide, Crossings’ gift of $10,000 literally makes a life-saving difference.

“By underwriting the costs of our anti-bullying and peace-building curriculum and live assemblies, Crossings is helping us bring empowering, culture-changing, mental wellness programming to kids who would otherwise be denied access due to lack of funding,” he says.

Thank you to Crossings Community Church for being our hero!
