This year as National Bullying Prevention Month.

Best National Bullying Prevention Month Ever!

This year as National Bullying Prevention Month approached, the Heroes In Waiting team had so many goals. We wanted to take our high-powered anti-bullying assemblies to as many students in as many schools as we could during the month of October. We wanted to engage our community to raise $15,000 in critical funding to bring our message of empowerment and hope to at least 3,000 students. And we wanted the world to understand the culture-changing, life-saving work this big little nonprofit is so passionate about.

But we never could have imagined all the goodness we were in for.

Over 31 days we hit the road to take our anti-bullying assemblies to five schools across Oklahoma — including both public and charter, urban and rural – and Oklahoma City Thunder and OU Football hype guy Malcolm Tubbs brought his world-famous energy and powerful personal story to more than 1,800 students at these awesome schools:

The kids and educators were AMAZING, every assembly was electric and edifying, and the feedback let us know we’re onto something special.

"I can't thank you enough for all that you have done today! You have brought so much joy to all of us. We strongly believe in you and the message you are delivering."
– Mrs. P, Elementary School Counselor
"The program was more effective than I thought it could be, largely because he was able to get the students involved, and allow them to be fun and interactive while hearing an important message at the same time."
– Mrs. T, High School Counselor
"Expectations were exceeded from start to finish. Heroes In Waiting was kind and communicative. The assembly was well organized and exciting for our students."
Mrs. R, Middle School Counselor

And boy, did the world take notice!

Our friends at MetroFamily Magazine kicked off National Bullying Prevention Month with a one-on-one interview with our very own Malcolm Tubbs as part of their Raising OKC Kids podcast. KFOR’s Heather Holeman graciously invited us to the studio for a live spot on her afternoon show. And News9’s Mike Glover showed up BIG and featured our work on his beloved “Something Good” segment, which aired in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa markets.

And finally, YOU, our amazing community of businesses, individuals, and organizations, leaned in together to blow through our audacious fundraising goal and raise $16,806 for the mental wellness of kids!

The best part?

Every gift up to $15,000 was doubled thanks to three generous donors. Altogether, this critical funding will help bring our anti-bullying and peace-building programming to 6,361 kids desperately in need of hope, encouragement, and mental wellness resources.

Huge, heartfelt thanks to our friends at Cory’s Audio Visual, official A/V provider to Heroes In Waiting, and to our amazing assembly sponsors, Express Employment International and Kimray.

We are blown away, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of our generous supporters, educators, and friends. THANK YOU for the best National Bullying Prevention Month ever.
